Farm to Table Dining

When surveying friends from the Richmond area on places to dine, I was greeted with a wealth of options. For this post however, I will be focusing on two in particular that share a common theme. This theme is not only are they excellent places to dine in the RVA, but they both give back and promote the use of local products in their dishes.

The first dining venue is the Silver Diner, a diner atmosphere, with a local food twist. Silver Diner has different locations in Maryland and Virginia, but are locally owned & operated. Silver Diner partners with different local farmers from the Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania area (depending on the food or beverage item), to introduce local products where they can. Along with supporting local agriculture, the Silver Diner also supports local schools. The Silver Diner raises money each year to donate to schools to enhance their nutrition and health programs. Not only will the food taste great, but you’ll also know that your business is supporting locally sourced commodities.

On to the next! Our second dining venue is the Urban Farmhouse & Café. Living in the city doesn’t mean you have to miss out on wholesome food because you may be a distance from a farm. Luckily, Urban Farmhouse & Café’s mission is to bring fresh foods and products to you through their business. Like the Silver Diner, Urban Farmhouse & Café also has various locations, these all happen to be close to the Richmond area. Don’t just stop in to try the local foods, but also come to hear and see local musicians and artists for an all around local, wholesome and refreshing experience.
