The Virginia Farm Bureau just announced that the average Virginia Thanksgiving costs are down this year by $1.93. For 20-somethings on a budget, this is great news for us. For some, this may be the first Thanksgiving dinner being prepared alone, and it’s important to consider how to be a savvy holiday cook.
Thanksgiving dinner this year will come to less than $50 for a 10 person dinner (the first time the cost of dinner has been under $50 in 30 years), which means only around $5 dollars per person! While this dinner price may seem too low to include all of your favorite holiday dishes, this price includes: turkey, sweet potatoes, pie shells, green beans, pumpkin filling, stuffing, rolls and more.
Virginia’s livestock prices are also down this year, which means a better deal on a turkey. While shopping around, make sure to look for local Virginia turkeys to get the benefits of the low cost livestock season. But don’t just stop with local turkey. Thanksgiving is a great time of the year to give back to the local economy and famers by choosing to pick local produce to put on your table.
