Family Day
When I think of Thanksgiving, I can't help but think of the way that my family celebrates it every year. My entire extended family travels to my house for the day, and we all heartily celebrate the time we have to spend together. We always have around 20 people in our house, so that means that preparations begin the day before.
We always get the busy work out of the way the day before Thanksgiving, so that we have the ability to spend Turkey Day relaxing with family. Football is always turned on in the living room with many of my uncles gathered around, beers in hand. My aunts are chatting in the kitchen, hleping my mom while she finishes the turkey. My cousins and I are always in the basement, rough-housing or just messing around. We go on walks, explore the neighborhood or even just stay in and play an assortment of video games and board games.
Then comes the big meal, where we all dine on typical Thanksgiving foods. My favorite is turkey, and part of the reason is because it makes me so tired afterward. When dinner is good and done, the parents sit around with each other, talking and laughing as each share different stories. Us younger ones? We find couches and chairs to relax on, giggling and talking.
Thanksgiving is my second favorite holiday (right after Halloween), and it's mostly because this is a day for relaxation. It's a day for spending time with family, putting work to the side and just remembering why we love each other so much. Spend your Thanksgiving with family and people you love, because trust me, it's worth it.
