The "Funnest" Runs in the 'burg

It's pretty safe to assume many of us have a love hate relationship with exercise. It’s something that we dread leading up it, but we normally never regret. Sometimes, it’s important to switch up your workout routine to gain enthusiasm and actually look forward to working out.

Running is a free and simple form of exercise that is the workout of choice of many. Don’t you get bored running the same 4 mile loop? Do you ever wish you could still get a great run in but also have FUN?

VA Momentum is a Harrisonburg based organization dedicated to getting the community active while also having fun. They partner with local breweries, wineries or other organizations to create events that motivate people to walk/run/move and have fun while doing it. Be sure to LIKE them on Facebook to stay in the loop about future events (90% of the time they involve beer or wine).

I came across this event and thought it epitomized “fun run”:

On October 10, VA Momentum is hosting the Diamond Dash 2 miler at Bluestone Vineyard. The best part is, every participant gets entered into a raffle to win a 1 carat diamond worth $10,000 from Christopher William Jewelers. Participants who are 21+ will be provided with a glass of Bluestone Vineyard wine following the run.

Registration is $50. Treat yourself! Every penny is worth it:

-A portion of the proceeds go directly to Mercy House, a shelter for homeless families in the Harrisonburg-Rockingham area

- A race t-shirt (if registered by October 4th at 6 p.m.)

-One entry per person into the diamond raffle

-Post-race party with live music and food for sale

-A fall day well spent at the picturesque Bluestone Vineyard (foliage will be nearing its peak!)

Rally a group of friends and have a beautiful fall Saturday featuring fitness, friends and wine- which to me, sounds pretty fun. Visit the sign up page for event details and to register. Cheers!

Also, Bluestone Bike & Run offers FREE group runs and bike rides. This is a great way to log those miles in a social setting. Group runs make the most unappealing runs more bearable. Grab you friends and chek out these frequently held events. All fitness levels are welcome, so there's nothing to be intimidated by. Many group runs are on Thursdays, so this is a great way to start the (almost) weekend. Events are posted on the Bluestone Bike & Run Facebook page, so be sure to give them a LIKE to stay updated!
