Front Row Seat to The District
Do you want to feel like you're in D.C. but be spared from the traffic?
There is a lush and extensive trail that is a great escape from the hustle and bustle of Alexandria and D.C. city living. Mount Vernon Trail is a nearly 18 mile-long paved trail that runs alongside the George Washington Memorial Parkway. Ideal for runners, walkers and cyclists, this would be a beautiful backdrop for a weekend morning workout with your friends before heading into town for brunch or coffee.
With views of the Potomac River and all the iconic D.C. landmarks, you can take this trail as North as Arlington National Cemetary or all the way down to the Mount Vernon Estate with many exciting stops along the route including Olde Town Alexandira and a lcoal favorite, Gravelly Point.
The terrain is ideal for runners and cyclicsts- (almost all) flat and paved! This location looks like a great motivator to get you out of bed on Saturday morning and have an awesome sweat sesh. The scenery isn't too shabby, either.
The National Park Service has a helpful map that wil help you plan your route and any pit-stops you may wish to take. If you make your way to the North-end of the trail and are too spent to run or bike your way back, there are a few easily accessible Metrorail stops as described here.
This weekend, I challenge you to have a healthy start to your morning and then reward yourself with some delicious weekend treats, you deserve it! Life is all about balance and I'm a huge advocate of that. Get out there and have fun!
